You could call Brisbane outfit DUBMARINE many things, but unforgettable is probably top of the list. When you see this band live, you know you’ll walk away with a grin on your face and sweat on your brow.

Smashing together dub, dancehall, reggae, drum n bass, and just a little touch of rock, the nine-piece tour-de-force is now set to unleash the first single – Beat in Control – from their highly anticipated second album due in the second half of 2013.

Beat in Control offers the first taste of the floor-shaking new record and will be online everywhere through SUGARRUSH on March 8.

The single release will be supported by East Coast Australian venue and festival dates before the band jet off to perform at the International Jazz Festival in Capetown South Africa, and then set their sights on another European sojourn through June and July before returning to Australia for the album release in August.

DUBMARINE will team up with Brisbane bass heavy roof raisers Kingfisha for double headliner shows in Brisbane/Sydney and Melbourne. Kingfisha will be launching their new single Digging for Fire.

www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/moomba

One of Melbourne’s most popular and enduring events, this festival for the people has captured the hearts and imaginations of successive generations of festival goers enlivening the heart of the city along the banks of Melbourne’s own Yarra River. Moomba continues to deliver an outstanding program of entertainment for all to ensure it remains a keenly anticipated childhood, family and community experience.

In honour of the event’s 58 year history Moomba continues to present the much-loved event traditions of the Moomba Masters International Water ski competition, the iconic and often madcap Birdman Rally, colourful carnival rides together with the magic and spectacle of the Moomba Parade.

As the centrepiece of the entire Festival, the Moomba Parade focuses on celebration; celebration of our harmonious and culturally diverse communities and peoples and of those characteristics which make Melbourne the distinctive, vibrant and energetic city that it is today.

The Moomba Parade travels through the heart of the city in a fantastically orchestrated kaleidoscope of music and colour featuring spectacular floats interspersed by a marvellous array of community groups, professional performers, the newly reinstated Moomba King and Queen together with a bunch of well-known Melbourne personalities – and its all in the name of Melbourne!

Brisbane dancefloor juggernauts Dubmarine are no strangers to underwater mystery or robotic conundrums. Hence it seemed only apt that when it came to sculpting (literally) a film clip for ‘Point the Bone’, the 2nd track lifted from their debut LP Depth of Sound, that they embraced this.
The ‘Point The Bone’ clip tells the epic tale of mother nature’s underwater might, in the form of a monstrous octopus, battling a gargantuan oppressive robot. It’s a clash of the titans, a battle between octopus and robot filmed in stop animation.

The clip itself, filmed over 200 hours, was painstakingly crafted by animator Debbie Steer and is inspired by both Japanese Kaiju monster TV series & stop motion monster films. The clip is a nod to the masters of these film genres, especially to Ray Harryhausen – the master of stop motion animation whose animated 6-tentacled octopus (6 tentacles instead of 8 to save money) was the star of “It Came From Beneath The Sea” (1955). In keeping with that theme, the ‘Point The Bone’ clip octopus had five legs …

Completed as a labor of love in their own spare time, Debbie was assisted by a team of animators and film maker friends who have worked on pictures such as Happy Feet 2, Legend of the Guardians, Transformers, The Great Gatsby and Sucker Punch. Most hadn’t done any stop motion animation before, let alone really attempt to do anything where there wasn’t an undo button.
This in turn gave a real home-made feel to the clip – which Debbie deliberately fostered. That said, the fact the set itself was created in her lounge room and remained there for three months throughout the filming may also have a lot to do with the home made feel.

Dubmarine are currently in the studio recording new material. Watch this space for dates and deets.
